Scott LippmanDirector's Welcome

In April of 2005, Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health debuted our revolutionary building bringing together research, education, and clinical care under one roof. This allows clinicians and scientists to communicate more efficiently and work together to advance patient care through translational research. From research in molecular genetics to the most advanced clinical treatments, Moores Cancer Center is at the forefront of the fight against cancer, developing promising new therapies and making them available to cancer patients throughout the region.

Our mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. We are one of just 53 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States – and the only one in the San Diego region. Moores Cancer Center has also been elected to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an exclusive alliance of 32 of the world’s leading cancer centers whose mission is to create and establish the standards for oncology care.

We are also proud to be a part of the San Diego National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers Council (C3), a collaborative effort between the three NCI-designated Cancer Centers in the San Diego area (Moores Cancer Center, Salk Institute, and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute) to leverage our collective talents and resources. Furthermore, we are proud to be part of the University of California Cancer Consortium which brings together the five NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the UC system: UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Francisco and UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. Collectively, the Consortium’s cancer centers are the nation’s top recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and of cancer research grants from the NCI, and the UC is the largest university holder of U.S. biomedical patents.

Our training programs for the next generation have more than a dozen cancer-related training programs with faculty, including MD fellowships, residencies, graduate and postdoctoral research fellowships, as well as undergraduate research fellowships.

Thank you for looking at our site. Our success depends on the innovation, dedication, and perseverance of our members, staff, friends, and donors of Moores Cancer Center.
