STEPP-ON-UP
Scientific Translational and Experimental Postbaccalaureate in Oncology Program for Underrepresented Populations
APPLICATIONS DUE MONDAY AUGUST 12, 2024
The Scientific Translational and Experimental Postbaccalaureate in Oncology Program for Underrepresented Populations (STEPP-ON-UP) strives to break down sociocultural barriers in healthcare by offering a unique opportunity to individuals from underserved backgrounds wishing to pursue doctoral level education in science, healthcare, and/or cancer (e.g., PhD, MD, etc.). Fellows will spend half of their time exploring the intricacies of cancer research in our Moores Cancer Center (MCC) laboratories, paired with one of our faculty members. The other half of their time, fellows will experience taking laboratory research from bench to bedside, working with our diverse patients through our Clinical Trials Office (CTO). In our CTO, fellows will learn about clinical research, from informed consent, inclusion/exclusion criteria, protocols and standardization, and patient management alongside clinical research coordinators, regulatory coordinators, and project managers. Fellows will also attend curated workshops to promote their professional advancement, designed to hone their scientific writing and presentation skills and teach them how to write strong graduate school applications. The STEPP-ON-UP program culminates with the completion of an independent research project, providing our fellows with hands-on experience and exposure to cutting-edge scientific work that will guide their journey towards graduate-level education.
