CONSORTIUM PARTNERS

San Diego State University

SDSU, one of four nationally accredited schools of public health in California, is located in one of the most vibrant and culturally diverse areas in the U.S. Our federally funded partnership with SDSU creates research opportunities for diverse populations.

C3 Cancer Centers Council

The The San Diego National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers Council (C3)  is a collaborative effort between the three NCI-designated Cancer Centers in the San Diego area (Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute) to leverage their collective talents and resources. The initial core facility-based initiative of the C3 focuses on enhancing inter-institutional sharing of a unique core facility at each center. Recharge rates in these cores have been negotiated to be the host institutions’ cancer center member internal rate plus 16% indirect cost. This reduced cost access to unique cores, along with enhanced outreach by the cores, provides valuable new technical resources

SANFORD BURNHAM PREBYS MEDICAL DISCOVERY INSTITUTE

This organization seeks to understand the underlying biological mechanisms that generate good health or, when they go awry, cause disease. With interest in drug discovery, stem cells, nanomedicine and translational medicine, working to discover the next generation of treatments for cancer and other diseases.

Collaborating Sites

Moores Cancer Center is located on the University of California, San Diego campus in the third most populous county in California. The campus is on 1,200 acres of coastal woodland in the research-rich “Golden Triangle” in La Jolla. It is adjacent to a host of biomedical research institutes, including the Burnham Institute, the Salk Institute, the Scripps Research Institute, and the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology. It is surrounded by over 470 biomedical and biopharmaceutical companies, which makes this one of the most powerful engines of medical progress in the country.

LUDWIG INSTITUTE FOR CANCER RESEARCH

One of just two U.S. branches of LICR is located on the UC San Diego campus, enabling powerful scientific synergies with the Cancer Center. It resides in the Cellular and Molecular Medicine-East building on the main UCSD campus, and all LICR scientists have faculty appointments at UCSD. Ludwig’s top leaders sit on our Senior Leaders Council.

SAN DIEGO SUPERCOMPUTER CENTER

Cancer Center researchers rely upon the powerful computing power of SDSC, one of just two such centers in the nation and housed on the UC San Diego campus.

Focusing on data-oriented computational-science and engineering applications, SDSC serves as a powerful resource for data cyberinfrastructure through the provision of software, hardware, and human resources in multidisciplinary science and engineering. SDSC houses the personnel and facilities of the Informatics section of the Genomics and Computational Biology SR. SDSC works on database development and implementation of microarray analytic algorithms or the Microarray section of the Genomics and Computational Biology SR. In addition, the SDSC has supported several catchment-area specific population science investigations using Geographical Information Systems data integrated with physical activity and other obesity-focused cancer-relevant investigations conducted by MCC members.
