Southern California Stem Cell Seminar Series

Monthly, second Thursday of the month, 9:30am

The monthly Stem Cell Seminar Series brings scientists from all over the world to the forefront of regenerative medicine and emphasizes the basic research and translational themes of stem cell research.

CT2 Lecture Series

Weekly, Tuesdays at noon on Zoom

This is a series of lectures by industry leaders in cancer drug development. The goal is to expose trainees to experts with a substantial track record in the “real life” challenges of cancer drug development. The lecturers are typically CEOs, directors of research, or medical directors from companies in the San Diego biomedical community, although experts from large pharmaceutical companies have also participated.

The San Diego Center for Precision Immunotherapy Meetings

Monthly, 1st Tuesdays of the Month

In collaboration with LJI, the San Diego Center for Precision Immunotherapy (SDCPI) was formally recognized and established as an academic center at UC San Diego. SDCPI is co-directed by Ezra Cohen (STT) and Stephen Schoenberger (STT) of LJI. The center aims to accelerate and translate scientific advances in immunology and to develop and implement novel personalized cancer immunotherapies for patients.

Usha Mahajani Symposium on Molecular Medicine

Annually in September, Salk Institute

The annual Usha Mahajani symposium, now in its 32nd year, is a collaborative project between UCSD, Salk, and Sanford-Burnham Prebys Institutes. The symposium, held annually, is generally attended by 250-300 senior investigators, post docs and graduate students in academia and biotech. The 2020 symposium was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. The most recent symposium was held on September 6, 2019.

UC Hematologic Malignancies Consortium Annual Research Symposium

Annually in October, via Zoom

The consortium increases the potential impact and reputation of the UC Cancer Cancers and California through promotion of cutting-edge research, translation of UC-based lab discoveries into UC-led clinical trials, education of trainees in clinical care and research in blood cancers, recruitment of the best academic talent from around the country, and improved retention of talented laboratory and clinical researchers.

C3 Scientific Retreat (UCSD, Salk, Sanford Burnham Prebys Cancer Centers) Pedal the Cause Funded Collaborative Pilot Projects

Annual

The San Diego NCI Cancer Center Council (C3) holds an annual retreat with keynotes and scientific presentations from guest speakers and members of the C3, and includes updates from Padres Pedal the Cause grant recipients. The event is hosted by the directors of each of the three C3 institutions.

Cell and Gene Meeting on the Mesa

Annually in October, Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad

The Cell & Gene Meeting on the Mesa is a three-day conference combining discussions between key opinion leaders, senior executives and top academic researchers. The program also includes 70+ presentations by the field’s most promising companies and 35 poster abstracts by leading scientists from around the globe.

Industry/Academia Translational Oncology Symposium

Annually in April

The MCC Office of Industry Relations facilitates interactions with San Diego’s biotech-rich environment and coordinates a popular, invite-only annual symposium with eminent speakers from academia, industry and governments, a forum to emphasize translational opportunities. This year's symposium is titled, "Next Generation Precision Oncology".

UCSD Head and Neck Cancer Grants Conference

Annual

Renowned faculty members will demonstrate the most up-to-date information regarding radiographic, surgical, and systemic treatments including paired radiation and immunotherapy protocols, proton beam therapy and contouring for optimal functional outcomes.

SDSU/UCSD U54 Partnership Retreat

Bi-annual, dates TBD

Initiated in 2015, the retreat alternates between UCSD and SDSU campuses. It is structured to foster cross-consortium scientific collaborations. The events are attended by > 80 faculty participating from diverse disciplines from both institutions (19 departments) and 15 community organization and FQHCs.
