Kathryn A. Gold, M.D. Appointed Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the UC San Diego, Moores Cancer Center

Dr. Kate Gold has been appointed as Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Moores Cancer Center. Dr. Gold was selected as interim Chief for the division, after an internal search earlier this year.   

Dr. Gold joined UC San Diego in 2016 and has assumed various leadership roles since her arrival, which include UCSD Medical Director of Cancer Quality and Value in 2019 and HS Clinical Professor and UC Health Cancer Quality Improvement Advisor in 2021. Her clinical and research targets thoracic and head and neck malignancies, with an emphasis on targeted therapies and immunotherapies. As a Professor in the UC San Diego, School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Dr. Gold instructs medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition, Dr. Gold has co-authored many articles, and her research has appeared in The Lancet Oncology , the Journal of the National Cancer Institute , and The New England Journal of Medicine , among others. Moreover, she is a Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research, and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.   

Dr. Gold brings proven leadership from appointments that date back to her fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she was selected for her clinical and leadership abilities to serve as Chief Fellow. She also completed a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In addition, she has held several leadership roles at Moores, and she served as the Vice Chief of the Hematology and Oncology Division from 2020, until she was named interim Chief in May of this year.
