Jing Yang, PhD
Professor, Departments of Pharmacology and Pediatrics
UC San Diego, School of Medicine
Co-Leader, Cancer Biology and Signaling Program
Moores Cancer Center
Dr. Yang is a Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology and Pediatrics at the UC San Diego School of Medicine and Co-Leader of the Cancer Biology and Signaling Program at Moores Cancer Center. Dr. Yang’s research elucidates the molecular basis of tumor metastasis and identifies new targets for anti-metastasis therapy. Her ground-breaking research not only demonstrates a critical role of the Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) program in tumor metastasis, but also brought EMT to the forefront of cancer research. Her lab continues to use (1) functional genomics and cellular and molecular biology approaches in 3D organoid cultures and (2) mouse tumor models to uncover novel genes and signaling pathways regulating EMT and tumor metastasis. Dr. Yang has received a number of awards for her work, such as the NIH Director’s New Innovators Award, the American Cancer Society Scholar award, and the John J. Abel Award from ASPET.

Sunil Advani, MD
Radiation Oncologist
Professor, Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences
UC San Diego, School of Medicine
Moores Cancer CenterDr. Advani is a physician-scientist, board-certified Radiation Oncologist at UC San Diego Health, and Professor in the UC San Diego, School of Medicine. Dr. Advani studies the tumor-targeted delivery of anti-cancer agents in combination with radiotherapy for locally aggressive tumors. Primarily a lab-based researcher, Dr. Advani possesses broad training in pre-clinical studies of cancer therapy resistance and the development of novel anti-cancer strategies that incorporate radiotherapy. Dr. Advani maintains an active radiation oncology clinic at the UC San Diego, South Bay Radiation Oncology facility, where he provides multi-disciplinary care for area cancer patients.
